Michigan Humane Society
Westland, Michigan

The renovation and expansion of the $6.9 million Michigan Humane Society facility in Westland, was dedicated in May 2005 as the Berman Center for Animal Care. The work that Blue Sky accomplished allows the organization to fulfill its mission of providing quality service and compassion to the animals that arrive at the MHS. The new 38,000 square foot facility also provides a friendly and inviting place for the community to adopt companions.

The major improvements to this facility included a 200% increase in the number of animals accommodated in the holding and adoption area, large adoption counseling stations, a spacious and more efficient front lobby, a cat housing village with floor to ceiling windows instead of individual steel cages, a 60% larger veterinary medical center with more exam and surgery rooms for increased numbers of spay and neuter surgeries, an onsite classroom, equipment and materials to reduce disease transmission, and state of the art materials to reduce noise and create a more stress free environment.

Blue Sky was able to take this 1971 building, collaborate with the dedicated professionals who know the Michigan Humane Society’s mission, and create a stellar facility that has greatly improved the way the Westland MHS conducts its business.
